Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview - The Wingaru
The Wingaru is a purpose-built STEM and PDHPE facility at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview — one of Australia’s leading Jesuit schools, founded in 1880 on the Lane Cove River in Sydney. The five-storey building provides dedicated spaces for Science, Technology and Applied Studies, Engineering, Mathematics and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, along with pastoral care houses, shared learning environments and a ground-floor canteen.

The name Wingaru means “to think” in the Cammeraygul language of the First Nations people of the area, reflecting the building’s purpose as a place for inquiry, discovery and deep learning.

GEO Flooring supplied American Biltrite ABPURE® with Nfuse® Technology — Imagine in sheet format for the project, in a custom colour matched to the College’s school branding. The rubber flooring was selected for its stain resistance, acoustic performance, comfort underfoot, engineering robustness and environmental credentials, supporting the building’s commitment to contemporary, sustainable and high-performance learning environments.

GEO Flooring Contribution
GEO Flooring supported the Wingaru project with American Biltrite ABPURE Imagine, a commercial rubber flooring solution in sheet format designed for education environments where stain resistance, acoustic comfort, durability and low-maintenance performance must work together under daily student use.

The flooring was supplied in a custom colour matched to the Saint Ignatius’ College branding, allowing the floor to reinforce the school’s identity throughout the building. Nfuse® Technology provides an occupancy-ready surface that requires no initial waxing, stripping or chemical sealing, helping reduce ongoing maintenance demands in a busy school environment.

ABPURE’s PVC-free rubber construction, Red List Free status and available Environmental Product Declaration supported the project’s sustainability objectives. For education projects working towards Green Star, WELL or other sustainability frameworks, these material credentials provide documented evidence that can support credit submissions and material health requirements.

In a building designed around innovation, inquiry and student wellbeing, the flooring needed to deliver more than surface-level performance. It had to support acoustic moderation across classrooms, laboratories and shared learning environments, provide comfort underfoot for students and staff moving through five storeys of active learning spaces, resist the staining risks inherent in science, technology and art settings, and maintain its appearance and performance over a long operational life.
Why ABPure Imagine was selected
Stain resistance: Nfuse® Technology provides enhanced stain resistance, helping protect the floor surface in science laboratories, technology workshops, art rooms and canteen environments where spills and chemical exposure are part of daily use.

Acoustic performance: Rubber flooring contributes to acoustic moderation in classrooms, corridors and shared learning spaces, supporting a more controlled learning environment across a multi-storey education building.

Comfort underfoot: The rubber flooring construction provides underfoot resilience and comfort for students and staff moving through the building throughout the school day.

Engineering robustness: ABPURE’s commercial rubber construction supports long-term durability in high-use education environments, including corridors, canteens, laboratories and multi-purpose spaces subject to daily student traffic, furniture movement and equipment use.

Environmental credentials: ABPURE’s PVC-free construction, Red List Free status and available EPD support specification pathways where material health, indoor air quality and environmental documentation are important to the project team.

Custom branding colour: The Imagine range was supplied in a custom colour matched to the College’s school branding, allowing the floor to contribute to institutional identity across the building.
